A typical Sunday.
Mar. 7th, 2004 09:22 pmLast night was Vanguard, the Monthly party for those who like to talk too much, um, well, the first Saturday party in Seattle, and I didn't get home 'til 2a.m., then couldn't sleep until after 6a.m., so woke up at 12:30p.m. and forgot somebody had moved brunch from yesterday to today, so I got up and there were 7 messages on my machine, the last one saying "They just called our name at the restaurant, I don't know where you are or what to do". That is a very sinking feeling, let me tell you.
I called her and she was just around the corner (on Capitol Hill), and a little surly, and I hadn't had coffee and it was 12:30, but I agreed to be there in 15 or 20 minutes anyway. It was sort of for my birthday. I'm glad I did because we had a brunch at a little place (new) on 12th and Pine, and the barrista was one of the best poets in town who had a book coming out next week with party and everything. I got over being grumpy because they gave me emergency coffee right away while we waited in line (have you ever tried to go to brunch in Seattle on Sunday around noon or 1?)
Then we had a good talk, and she gave me new jeans, and an art piece made of a cow skull with native american somethings in it's forehead. I never know what to do about native american art, but some people feel obligated to give it to me. It's still in it's bag, and I have to find somewhere to hang it. I don't know if I like pieces of animals hanging around. Then we went to International Women's Day at Seattle Center, where a friend of mine was video taping, and another was doing a presentation on Cuba and another on um, another part of the world probably in South America.
I was a little tired so I was glad the video presentation room was too full to even open the door and go in and sit down, so we were forced to go downstairs and walk around to all the booths and pick up all the swag. Someone wants to help me buy my first home. Hah. They have to wait until I'm working. But, nice fantasy. Lots of buttons with words like stop and down with and peace on them. I found out I qualify in another age category for demographics. Weird. Saw some friends of ours on TV doing an art rebel act for women's day down at Pike Place Market. A butch friend of mine in a, um, one of those tu-tu like frilly girly dresses that flares out. They'd do a kick line, like Las Vegas Showgirls, then turn around and flip up their skirts and they had messages in big black letters across their underdrawer things. Very cute.
Then, on the way home I stopped at PetCo and talked to my dog washing friend there and gave her her xmas present that's been in my glove compartment for awhile now. Do you see it is March now, the end of the first week, and xmas was only like 3 months ago? I figured I better give it to her before it expires. So I invited her to my house Tuesday and we'll talk and maybe become friends again.
Whew. That was just half the weekend. I also got all the way through the cemetary on my x-box Buffy game.
